Growing Up Poor: Britain’s Breadline Kids
Three articulate and engaging kids tell their own stories and wryly observe the impact poverty and homelessness is having on their families, including their parents’ mental health.
The celebs will fully immerse themselves in this countryside crash course that will push them to their limits. Tackling real farming challenges from herding sheep and mucking out, to feeding lambs and driving tractors, the wannabe farmers soon discover the harsh reality of how tough farm life can be.
Presenter Stephen Bailey is on hand to guide the celebs through the challenges set by expert farmer, Chris Jeffrey, who is judge, jury and executioner. Farmer Chris will each day award his ‘Best in Show’ rosette to those that impress, whilst putting ‘out to pasture’ and sending home those who do not… And on day 10, in the Grand Final, one celeb will be crowned ‘Supreme Champion’ of Celebs on the Farm.
A GooWoo Media Production for 5 Star
Arriving at Lunsford Farm in East Sussex, things immediately go wrong when glamour girl Charlotte Dawson comes a cropper on her high heels. The celebs’ first challenge is just to find their way around the farm and solve some riddles.
The celebs are split into two teams competing at sheep-herding, which only results in copious selfies and several verses of Kum Ba Ya. Task number two is to visit an alpaca farm in Kent, and clip the unpredictable animals’ toenails.
On a damp and dreary day, the celebs must dress up their scarecrows with whatever is to hand. Megan gets quite emotional when asked to nurse an orphaned lamb.
A mystery challenge results in Gleb Savchenko and Ashley McKenzie taking their shirts off, and Sandi Bogle throwing down some shapes, farmyard-style. But who will be the first celeb sent out to pasture?
Today’s tasks involve moving the produce around the farm, so the celebs must spend a day hay-baling and tractor-driving. Controlling the lumbering vehicles is harder than any of them expected.
The amateur farmers head to the dairy farm, where they are split into teams to learn how to milk the cows. Gleb Savchenko calls it his ‘best day ever’, but Bobby Norris is less impressed with his own close encounter.
The first task is to gather up sheep droppings from the fields and test them for diseases. After that unpleasantness, a second task to take animal selfies seems like a reward.
The celebs are challenged to show off what they have learned by giving a tour of the farm to visitors, with farmer Chris observing. A relaxing quiz night at the local village pub does not go to plan.
It is time for the semi-final. Charlotte Dawson declares herself the ‘Tractor Queen’, but Louis nimbly races ahead when it comes to planting potatoes. Farmer Chris goes to deliberate and decide on which celeb he wants to keep around.
The Grand Finale arrives, and only three celebs remain. Chris has some final challenges for them before he decides – Sheep Dagging, Welly Wanging, and Tossing the Sheaf!
In pairs, the celebrities arrive on the farm. Presenter Stephen Bailey welcomes and gives the celebs’ first challenge which is to get to know the farm and its animals using their celebrity flair.
Separated into three teams, the celebs must muck out the nasty, stinking cowshed. The first full day on the farm culminates back in The Barn where Farmer Chris reviews the day an argument breaks out among the celebs that threatens to turn the mood sour…
Split into pairs, the celebs are tasked with picking a ram which they’ll wash and spruce up in preparation for showing their rams in a parade later, as all farmers would before a show.
Farmer Chris sets the celebs the challenge of creating farm calendars for 2020. They have to take creative photos of each other around the farm. Farmer Chris puts his first celeb out to pasture, who is driven off the farm on the back of a tractor waved off by their fellow celebs.
Down in the marshes, the celebs are tasked with identifying the sheeps marked with the other team’s brands and sort them from the flock. However, the pen is filled with several rogue branded sheep, so the celebs struggle to find the correct sheep, let alone sort them!
The first challenge is driving a tractor, but not in a straight line, they must tackle our giant tractor obstacle course driving forwards AND backwards, which terrifies those celebs that can’t drive a manual!
After the last night’s elimination only eight celebs remain in this fiercely fought competition. The trainee farmers start the day in Farmer Chris’ good books as they all arrive on time for the morning briefing in The Barn.
The six remaining celebs competing in the Quarter-Final gather in The Barn where they learn they’re spending the morning at a neighbouring pig farm.
It’s the Semi-Final! On their penultimate day on the farm, the ever-determined celebs are ready to give their all to secure a place in tomorrow’s Grand Final.
In unprecedented circumstances, the Grand Final begins with FIVE finalists. With the final containing one celeb too many, Farmer Chris has a word of warning by announcing someone may be sent home at any time during the day! Will all the celebs make it to the Supreme Champion Ceremony, or will one fall at the final hurdle…?
